Hello from a house. A home. A home without wheels. Leading into the holidays we were reminded of the periodic separation that came throughout 2025 to help family. Since George’s work already requires time away from home, we came to the conclusion that we did in fact want to scale up to a house to allow us to invite my father in law to stay with us. George and I poured over Zillow together on the phone after the girls went to bed. By day, the girls and I house hunted.

Our need for an in-law apartment helped narrow our search to a few listings. We also knew we wanted some land to garden and have space to stretch out after years in RV parks. We were lucky to find a place that checked most of the boxes.

Fast forward to now, here in Placerville. A town that almost seems like it chose us. Situated in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, it’s sandwiched between 2 towns our trusty old RV parked in – Pollock Pines and Folsom. Over the years we’ve come to Placerville for doctor’s appointments (we realized it was easier to travel to appointments rather than keep finding new doctors) and events such as the Placerville Christmas parade. We also learned it’s above the fog line and mostly below the snow line, though it does snow here on occasion.
We miss our friends at the RV parks and hope to keeping in touch with them while they’re local and also meet new friends. Ellie is nervously excited to go to in-person school for 2nd grade next year. She is finishing out 1st grade through California Virtual Academy which worked really well for us while we were mobile. A few places we’ve been enjoying in our newish to us town are Nourish Cafe, playgrounds/parks/trails, the library and 24 Carrot Farm.

We’ve been enjoying more space to cook and are growing in our self-sufficiency. We grew our own sprouts in the camper and have been able to add on making our own sauerkraut and pickles. We have a lot to learn with caring for our land and know we want gardening to be a part of that. Goats just might be in our future to help us keep the grass trimmed on our hilly terrain.

Welcome home again mixer – a rare belonging that has made the cut throughout my many moves and life changes. Purchased at the age of 12 at BJ’s Wholesale Club.
